Manuel Neuer says he felt sorry for Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer ‘felt sorry’ for his counterpart Hugo Lloris, as the Germans thrashed Tottenham Hotspur in the second round of Champions League group stage fixtures.

The Bavarians tore Spurs apart at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with winger Serge Gnabry helping himself to four goals.

Tottenham were still in it at 4-2, but then capitulated by conceded three goals in the last 10 minutes.

Frenchman Lloris was fairly powerless to prevent any of the goals, and Neuer says he actually felt for the World Cup winner on the night.

He said (): “I’m a little sorry for Hugo Lloris. He could do nothing and conceded seven home goals. It’s bitter.”

It certainly is bitter for Lloris, who would have been hoping to atone for his howler against Southampton last weekend.

TBR’s view

It will be an extra frustrating feeling for Lloris, especially knowing there wasn’t really anything he could do to reduce the scoreline.

Perhaps Neuer’s comments will light a fire under Spurs going forwards – no professional footballer wants to ever be felt sorry for.

It is vital for Lloris and his teammates to work it out and bounce back in convincing fashion against Brighton on Saturday.
