Towards the middle of the January transfer window, Aston Villa sent scouts to watch Hamilton in action for the League Two club. But a January move never materialised and Hamilton remained at Field Mill.
Despite missing out in January, Aston Villa will surely be keeping their tabs on his progress ahead of a potential move next summer.
And Hamilton’s latest performance would have impressed Aston Villa scouts, potentially convincing the West Midlands club to reignite their January interest.
The 23-year-old produced a match-winning display against Cheltenham Town, scoring twice in a 4-2 win.
This took his season tally to 10 goals in 42 games, which is an impressive total for a winger. And it kept the Stags in the automatic promotion places with 11 games left to play.
Aston Villa will be keeping their options open but Hamilton could be an exciting wildcard option.
Jumping up two divisions (assuming Aston Villa stay in the Championship) would be a challenge for the ex-Sheffield United man.
But he has the potential to excel at a higher level and Aston Villa should monitor him for the remainder of the season.
