‘Definitely’: Liverpool boost in race for ‘extraordinary’ midfielder thanks to Manchester United – journalist

Liverpool’s hopes of signing Frenkie de Jong could be boosted by Manchester United’s potential interest in Sassuolo midfielder, Davide Frattesi.

That’s according to journalist Pete O’Rourke anyway, who has told GiveMeSport that United might see Frattesi as a cheaper option to Dutchman De Jong.

Interest in Barcelona star De Jong is high. Liverpool are known to have a concrete interest in him and it was only last month that . Manchester United are and have long been keen on bringing him to Old Trafford.

Of course, everyone knows the Reds need a new midfielder. And according to O’Rourke, Manchester United could look to spend less and move for Frattesi instead.

“Frattesi would definitely be a cheaper alternative and I think if Man United were to make a serious offer, Sassuolo would find it hard to find down, and I’m sure Frattesi would be very much interested in a potential move to the Premier League to such a big club like Manchester United,” O’Rourke told .

United’s backing off of De Jong would give Liverpool an edge in the race for the Dutchman. Branded ‘‘ by Xavi, De Jong has impressed during his time in Barcelona.

The Dutch star is one of the best in the world already and scarily, he’s young enough to continue getting even better.

For Liverpool, he is perfect. He is like a young Thiago and over time, Jurgen Klopp would surely only get even more from him. With United potentially looking at different options here, Liverpool will fancy themselves.

The fee might be more than £60m. But Liverpool need fresh faces, and De Jong is worth the time and money.
