Report: Manchester United and Tottenham in discussions over Islam Slimani transfer

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are locked in talks with the representatives of Leicester City striker Islam Slimani over a surprise January transfer,

The 31-year-old spent the first half of the season at Monaco where is on loan from the King Power Stadium.

Slimani cost Leicester £29 million in 2016 but 13 goals in 46 games for the Foxes haven’t seen him live up to the valuation.

Both United and Tottenham are desperate to add firepower to their ranks before the transfer window closes.

Slimani scored seven goals and registered seven assists in Ligue 1 during the first half of the campaign but could now be on the move.

Tottenham need a striker due to the hamstring injury suffered by Harry Kane. United have lost Marcus Rashford for the foreseeable with a stress fracture of the back.

It is unsure at this stage whether or not any deals proposed by the Premier League duo would be on loan or permanent.

Slimani is paid £80,000-a-week at Leicester and that doesn’t exactly make him a cheap option for interested parties.

Throughout his career, there isn’t a great deal of evidence that he can score on a consistent basis.

His record at Sporting Lison of 57 goals in 111 appearances was pretty decent but in a far inferior league to the English top flight.

Slimani is a strange link considering that he hasn’t really done much in the Premier League.

For Tottenham, it would be especially strange. Tottenham have Lucas Moura and Heung Son-min who can both play upfront.

Although those two aren’t natural strikers, they are both probably better options than Slimani for the rest of the current campaign.
