Manchester United round-up: Talks held with Brazilian; Madrid star discusses rumours; striker could cost £8.5 million

The  claim that Monaco right back Fabinho has held talks with the Red Devils, as the 23-year-old’s father Joao revealed when he said:

“We have been in talks with Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and approached by Barcelona. We like Manchester United and Mourinho’s work, but we have a soft spot for Manchester City.”

The Brazilian worked alongside Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid as a youngster, with Mourinho giving him his first shot at the Bernabeu. Now, the Monaco man is one of the most in demand full-backs in the world with his attacking prowess and versatility allowing him to also play in midfield.

Another possible target could be Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who nearly joined the club in a swap deal involving David de Gea in 2014. Now, the Costa Rican has told , as translated by and the :

“I try to work hard every day and ignore those sorts of things. Madrid has to have the best players and I work hard each day to be the best, be among the best players and to be able to stay here for many years to come. The support from president Florentino Perez has been very important for me, he’s displayed the trust he has in me. I’m relaxed and I try to repay that faith with saves and by helping the team.”

Whether Madrid opt to make a renewed attempt to sign De Gea will likely not become clear until the summer, but the Spaniard is likely to be one of the club’s top targets given his roots in Madrid and reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

The  also report that despite Anthony Martial’s man of the match display at the weekend, there are negatives for the club, with his next strike stet to trigger a clause in the deal which brought him to Manchester which would require the club to pay an additional £8.5 million.

The clause will be activated when the ex-Monaco striker scores his 25th competitive goal for the club, with a further £8.5 million due when he wins 10 more France caps or is shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or, having already paid £42.5 million for the transfer of the left sided attacker.
