Manchester United round-up: Huge Madrid trade reported; rival interest in Brazilian midfielder; Smalling links
The much-covered rumour linking Ronaldo to Manchester United shows no signs of holding up with the Portuguese star said to be part of a £183m deal, according to reports in Italian newspaper Tuttosport, as referenced by the and the .
The source suggested that the 32-year-old, who is currently on international duty at the Confederations Cup, will join United along with teammate Alvaro Morata for a fee of £183 million, plus David De Gea.
The two mega clubs are still haggling over a fee for Morata and, while Ronaldo’s potential availability has not affected the deal for the Spanish striker, the Red Devils are prepared to go all out for the duo – and that includes potentially giving up their number one goalkeeper.
Mourinho is reported to not have had the best relationship with Ronaldo during his spell at Real Madrid, but it would represent a major coup if the Premier League side were to smash the world record transfer fee again by bringing in two impressive signings.
In other news, United’s main rivals Manchester City are said to be keen on signing Benfica’s Talisca Anderson, a player Mourinho has been keen on buying for a while. Turkish outlet suggest that Talisca, who had a fine campaign on loan at Besiktas last season, is a target of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Recently, in an interview with Globoesporte, as reported by and the , the 22-year-old caused a storm by admitting Mourinho wanted to sign him. He said: ““Mourinho wants me, he has wanted me for a long time and I am an admirer of his work.”
It remains to be seen whether new interest from the blue half of Manchester will affect whether the Reds are able to sign the Brazilian midfielder, but with their rivals keen, this saga could be of major interest over the next few weeks.
While most of United’s transfer news involves them being linked with new signings, current player Chris Smalling is rumoured to be moving away from the club this summer. The England international has fallen down the pecking order after the arrival of Victor Lindelof and could well be sold in the near future.
The have reported that Mauricio Pochettino is interested in bringing Smalling to Tottenham after he missed out on Harry Maguire, who chose Leicester instead as he felt he would get more game time for the same wage packet. In the same report, the Mail suggest that Mourinho may use the Englishman as a makeweight in a deal to sign Eric Dier, who is valued at £50 million by the London club.
