Manchester United round-up: EFL Cup reaction; renewed effort for Barcelona star; target chooses United over Chelsea

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the hero for the Red Devils yesterday as his brace helped secure victory in the EFL Cup final over Southampton as he spoke after the game to , saying:

“Wherever I went, I won and I’m happy for it because I had a long career, I had a fantastic career. Before coming to England I could have settled down and been happy with what I’d achieved. But that’s me, I’m not satisfied, I want more and I’m still hungry, even at this age. This is my second trophy with the club [after the Community Shield] and I’m super happy. I came to win and I’m winning. Southampton played very well and we didn’t play like we normally do. But that doesn’t mean that they didn’t do good because they played a good game. From losing 2-0 to come back to 2-2 is not easy also so they did a good game. Congratulations to them for the good game but the trophy is ours.”

The 35-year-old still has doubts over his future according to some reports, but it seems that the striker was happy enough at Wembley yesterday.

If he does leave, then a replacement may already be being lined up as Spanish newspaper  report that Jose Mourinho has re-established contact with Barcelona star Neymar over a potential summer move to Old Trafford.

The Brazilian was linked with the club last summer before agreeing a new deal with the Spanish club, but it seems that Manchester United are not ready to concede defeat just yet in their pursuit.

Another summer addition could be Lazio defender Stefan De Vrij as the  believe that the Dutchman is set to choose a move to Manchester over Chelsea despite interest from both clubs over the last few weeks with an eye on a summer move.

De Vrij has caught the eye for his strong defending whilst remaining composed on the ball, seemingly being the perfect fit as Mourinho looks to add depth to the United squad in defence in particular.
