Manchester United round-up: Approach for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez; Porto’s Andre Silva targeted; potential role for Aitor Karanka

Jose Mourinho has made contact with Alexis Sanchez over what could be one of the most sensational transfers of the summer, according to Chilean television programme . They claim that United, alongside Manchester City and Chelsea, are monitoring the forward as he grows unhappy in north London.

It’s believed that Mourinho has called the Chile international to start talks over a potential move with only one year left on his contract, meaning that the Gunners could be forced to sell their star man this summer if they want to be sure that they get a fee for his sale, meaning he could follow in the footsteps of Robin Van Persie in making the move.

Another potential target is Porto striker Andre Silva as  claim that the club, alongside Chelsea, are tracking the Portugal international’s progress after breaking into the first team with some prolific form which has seen him score 20 goals in 38 games so far this season.

The 21-year-old has also scored five goals in six international appearances since winning his first cap in September and has a £51 million release clause included in his contract. That said, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Antoine Griezmann also linked, he may not be first choice on Mourinho’s list of targets.

Off the field, Mourinho is also targeting additions, as the  say that the Portuguese manager could make an offer to his close friend Aitor Karanka to join the backroom staff at Old Trafford after being sacked as manager by Middlesbrough with the side languishing at the bottom of the league.

Karanka was Mourinho’s assistant at Real Madrid and could join United in a similar role, with Mourinho looking to involve the Spaniard. Whether Karanka is ready to step back into an assistant role after several years in the hot seat in the north-east could be the deal breaker.
