Manchester United round-up: Ronaldo hints at return; Barcelona midfielder linked; Dendoncker wants move
Spanish radio station claim that Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed a desire to return to the Premier League in front of judges as he faces trial over alleged tax fraud. The have translated the quotes from the Portugal international, in which he supposedly said:
“I never had a problem in England… that’s why I would like to go back to England.”
Ronaldo was a hero during his time at Old Trafford and has continually been linked with a potential return since his departure. Speculation regarding a potential exit from Madrid has been fueled by this tax case, with Ronaldo seeming closer than ever to a return to Manchester.
He may be joined by another player from La Liga, as claim that Manchester United could join Chelsea and Monaco in considering a bid for Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto. It is believed that he has a release clause in his contract set at just £36 million, representing good value for money.
The reports come from a dubious source in Spain, but Roberto is exactly the kind of midfielder that Jose Mourinho may look to add to his midfield. With versatility also offering an option at right-back, Roberto could be considered as a potential signing for that position.
Another midfield option could be Anderlecht youngster Leander Dendoncker. The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the Belgian. Now, his agent Christophe Henrotay has told that he wants to leave, as translated by :
“Anderlecht want to keep him, but the kid wants a new challenge. We’ll see if we can find an agreement with the club, but that seems difficult.”
Dendoncker was impressive against United over two legs in the clash between the two sides in the Europa League. It is thought that those displays encouraged United to scout the prospect in more detail and could now launch a move.
