Manchester United: Rooney to leave next month; £85million competition from Arsenal; defender house hunting in Milan
The sensationally claim that Manchester United are prepared to allow captain Wayne Rooney to leave the club for China next month with Jose Mourinho feeling that he is no longer required at Old Trafford. China’s transfer window is open until 28th February and can sign players until that date.
The 31-year-old could put pen to paper on an eye watering £140 million contract, with a bidding war amongst clubs from the Chinese Super League expected over the next few weeks before Rooney’s future is clear.
The report that the club will move imminently to make an £85 million bid for Atlético Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann in the summer. However, they will face competition from Arsenal, who made a move to sign him last summer and are prepared to pay him over £250,000 per week in a potential deal.
Any such deal depends on whether Diego Simeone and co. will allow the forward to leave but the club’s poor form could result in Griezmann demanding a move, with Chelsea and Manchester City also said to be keeping an eye on the situation.
Another player could be set to follow Rooney out of the door at Old Trafford, according to the , as they report that Matteo Darmian is looking for a house in Milan as interest from Inter Milan hots up with Darmian still yet to convince Jose Mourinho that he is a long term option for the club.
Mourinho is likely to cash in on the Italian if an offer from the San Siro is forthcoming, but Darmian has remained under consideration, frequently playing out of position on the left side of defence. With no concrete bid yet made, it seems likely that Darmian may have to wait until the summer to leave.
