‘A player of interest’: Sky Sports journo says ‘incredible’ Tottenham and Liverpool target could yet wind up at Old Trafford

The name of Antony just won’t quite go away this window and Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth has said today he remains a player of interest to Manchester United.

Just a month or so ago, Tottenham were believed to have put forward a proposal to Ajax to try and sign Antony. At the time, it was claimed Spurs would offer up Steven Bergwijn as a sweetener in any deal. Of course, since then, Bergwijn has joined anyway while Antony remains an Ajax player as well.

However, despite reports over the weekend claiming Ajax had no intention of selling Antony after losing Lisandro Martinez, Sky’s Sheth has said today that the Brazilian very much remains a player of interest to the Red Devils.

“New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has stated United want to strengthen in the forward line,” Sheth said on .

“Ajax forward Antony remains a player of interest. Initial talks between the clubs have highlighted a gap in valuations for the 22-year-old.”

Of course, United could be faced with shelling out more than £50m for a player Erik ten Hag has previously labelled as an ‘incredible’ talent. However, with Ten Hag potentially wanting a new attacker, he might well fancy taking his former player with him.

TBR’s View: Antony Can Shine In England With Any Team

The Brazilian certainly looks to be capable of doing the business for whoever signs him this summer and it’s little wonder Man United do want him so much. Indeed, it’s easy to see why both Tottenham and Liverpool have also been mentioned as well.

Ultimately, this will come down to money. Ajax don’t necessarily need to sell now so United – or whoever – will need to make a big bid to land the South American.

He will succeed at another club eventually, it’s just a case of if someone decides to sign him now.
