Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool all eyeing Youssouf Fofana

Man United and Arsenal could certainly do with bolstering their midfield ranks in January, particularly with the likes of Sofyan Amrabat and Thomas Partey likely going to the Africa Cup of Nations.

And while Liverpool aren’t in such pressing need, a natural No. 6 would nonetheless be a good addition to the Anfield ranks. Besides, you can’t pass up the opportunity to sign a top talent like Fofana.

The 24-year-old has clocked up 155 competitive appearances for Monaco, registering four goals and 14 assists in the process. He also has 15 caps for France and played at the 2022 World Cup.

Youssouf Fofana is a ‘high-energy, aggressive and physically imposing midfielder’

recently described him as a ‘high-energy, aggressive, and physically imposing midfielder’ who is ‘strong in duels’.

The scouting website noted his 10.9 duels per 90 minutes with a 50.6% ground duel success rate, ‘showcasing his anticipation as well as his world-class athleticism and ability to cover plenty of ground’.

They added: ‘Fofana’s vision means he loves to cut through the pressing lines with his passes and even averages 0.36 through balls per 90 – putting him in the 86th percentile for midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues.

All in all, Fofana looks like a great shout for Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool alike. The Red Devils seem to be looking to steal a march on the Gunners and the Reds though, so the latter two clubs may need to move fast in order not to risk losing out.
