Manchester United ready to hand ‘fearless’ player a new contract and a huge pay rise
- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Fresh from handing Bruno Fernandes a new contract at Manchester United, Dan Ashworth is continuing to prepare the club for a more successful future.
Man United somewhat steadied the ship with a win away to Southampton last weekend, a game in which Matthijs de Ligt properly announced his arrival.
Manuel Ugarte was also on the bench for the first time too – two stellar additions at Old Trafford who should improve performances with time.
Erik ten Hag’s side have improved their starting eleven this summer, also welcoming Noussair Mazraoui to the club.
And after their successful window, Dan Ashworth is now turning his attention to tying down two crucial players for the club’s future.
TBR Football understands that United have now made progress in talks over new deals for Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo.
Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo both set for new contracts at Old Trafford
United began conversations with the camps of both players earlier in the year, and the club hope and believe that each deal will be concluded by the end of 2024.
Since beginning their initial talks, both Mainoo and Diallo have become first-team regulars, and the duo are set to be rewarded.

21-year-old Diallo is technically out of contract next summer, but United have an option to extend that deal that they will exercise to protect themselves if a new contract is not inked by January.
However, sources confirm that it is a matter of when Diallo signs, and not if.
Diallo has emerged as an important member of Ten Hag’s side and the club’s hierarchy are delighted with his progress, attitude and commitment.
United taking no risks with Mainoo’s future
Likewise, United’s hierarchy have loved watching the development of Mainoo at Old Trafford.
And despite having a contract that runs until 2027, Mainoo is set to receive a huge pay rise befitting of his stature as one of Europe’s most highly-regarded young midfielders.
United’s new sporting director, Ashworth, has made it clear the new deals for Mainoo and Diallo were priorities for the club once the summer transfer window closed.
Excellent news for United fans, particularly in the case of Mainoo, who has already looked ‘fearless’ on Europe’s biggest stage.
Perhaps Diallo still has a lot of areas of his game to improve, but he’s certainly on the right track after a strong pre-season – someone who has clearly earned Ten Hag’s trust.
