Manchester United: Neymar latest; midfielder set to depart; Giggs discusses managerial hopes
Spanish sources, cited in the claim that Brazilian forward Neymar turned down the Red Devils in the summer, along with offers from Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Manchester City, as he instead opted to remain at the Camp Nou. United did offer a much more attractive financial package to the Brazilian, but he is happy in Barcelona and did not want to leave regardless of the money on offer.
It indicates United’s strategy of looking for ‘galactico’ style signings of big names which saw the signings of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba in the summer. Whether they could have been afforded alongside the signing of Neymar seems unlikely, but with the Brazilian signing a new deal at his club, attentions may have to turn elsewhere for their next Galactico signing.
One man with no future at the club is Bastian Schweinsteiger, who looks set for a January exit despite staff at the club being hugely impressed by his attitude and efforts in training, as one source told the :
We have been very impressed with him. He has managed to get himself much fitter over the last month. He has got his head down and really pushed himself and is visibly lighter after getting over his injuries from last season. The support staff and some of his team-mates are pleased for him. He hasn’t moaned once and is coming in and worked hard in the gym. He is obviously fulfilling his contractual obligations but he appears happy and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he has something lined up in January.
Having trained alone during the international break, Schweinsteiger is unlikely to feature again under Jose Mourinho and speculation currently suggests that a move to the MLS could be on the cards in January.
A former club legend has also discussed the possibility of managing the club in the future, as icon Ryan Giggs spoke at the :
Playing for Man United and playing for Wales, they are the two jobs which would be the highlight for me, and very hard to beat… I believe you first of all have to earn your stripes and you have got to maybe start at a lower level and see where it takes you. Just as when I was a player you try to give your all and your best and if that is not good enough, so be it.
The news comes as Giggs appears to be realistic about his potential management career, having narrowly missed out on the opportunity to replace Francesco Guidolin at Swansea City, with Bob Bradley impressing on interview.
