Manchester United have made contact to sign Giorgio Scalvini from Atalanta – a player Manchester City reportedly spoke to in 2023.

Manchester United make contact to sign Scalvini
Well – according to – Manchester United have enquired about the Italy international.
Atalanta are demanding €40m (£34m) to sell Scalvini – who is also attracting interest from Borussia Dortmund – and would consider selling for that fee given the defender’s status as an academy product.
Atalanta would make 100% profit on any sale as a result of developing the 20-year-old themselves.
Calciomercato add that Napoli and Inter Milan have also taken a look at Scalvini in recent years, although it is Manchester United who are currently in dialogue with Atalanta over a deal.
Tottenham have also made attempts to sign the centre-back in the past, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Atalanta No.42 has made appearances in all competitions so far this season, scoring one goal while also providing two assists.
Manchester City spoke to Scalvini before Gvardiol
Back in August, Manchester United’s bitter rivals Manchester City signed Croatia international Josko Gvardiol in a deal.
However – according to – the Citizens approached Scalvini first, which suggests Pep Guardiola was more interested in the Italian than the Croatian.
Ultimately, Atalanta opted against selling the 20-year-old and Manchester City looked elsewhere.
Now – however – Scalvini could end up playing his football in Manchester, just at Old Trafford rather than the Etihad Stadium.
