Manchester United close on ‘unbelievable’ African forward who wants Old Trafford move

TBR Football can exclusively confirm that Manchester United are pushing to make a second attacking signing after Matheus Cunha.

Manchester United recently activated the Brazilian forward’s £62.5million release clause, handing him a five-year contract with an option for a further year.

The Red Devils have a lot of work to do in order to strengthen their squad and avoid a repeat of last season.

Bryan Mbeumo is now firmly in Man United’s sights, with the club submitting a £55million bid for the Brentford star earlier this week.

TBR Football can now reveal how close Man United are to a breakthrough with Brentford after submitting a second bid.

Manchester United in talks with Brentford after £60million-plus Bryan Mbeumo bid

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey can confirm that Man United’s second bid, which follows the £55million offer from earlier this week, is north of £60million.

This is getting very close to Brentford’s valuation, which is believed to be more than the £62.5million that the Old Trafford outfit paid for Cunha.

Mbeumo’s people have already agreed the broad principle of his deal with the Red Devils.

The two clubs are now talking over a deal for the Cameroon international, and Brentford’s sources say they are getting towards a positive conclusion.

“This deal will get done, this one is a case of when rather than if,” Bailey exclusively told TBR Football.

“The two clubs are not far away now, United know that Brentford’s asking price is primarily based around their fee for Matheus Cunha so they can hardly object too much.

“Mbeumo wants it and they hope to have it done early next week.

“Whilst we may wonder how Mbeumo and Cunha fit under Ruben Amorin, they see it as a brilliant start to their transfer business.”

Ian Wright’s Bryan Mbeumo prediction if he joins Manchester United

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Mbeumo’s potential move to Man United.

The Arsenal legend thinks Mbeumo could actually go to another level if he goes to Old Trafford, claiming he’ll thrive under the pressure that comes from joining a top club.

“When you saw it, like obviously Ivan Toney took all the plaudits at Brentford, but when you watched him then… you’re looking at it now and it’s more consistent, and you think, yeah. It’s the only thing I’m surprised about with him, is that he’s only 26,” Wright said.

“You know something, if he goes to United I think that he’s somebody that, if he gets in the moments that he’s had for Brentford, for United, he will then realise where he is. Because he goes to another level with the attention from United.”

Mbeumo registered an impressive 20 goals and eight assists in the Premier League last season – but he was also truly outstanding off the ball.

“Unbelievable at penalties, assists, work ethic,” Thomas Frank previously said of Mbeumo, as per . “An unbelievable player.”
