Manchester United have now made a U-turn regarding Ruud van Nistelrooy

Manchester United decided to sack Erik ten Hag on Monday – with Ruud van Nistelrooy taking over on an interim basis.

TBR Football understand 𓆉INEOS are trying to take Ruben Amorim from Sporting CP💫 to replace the Dutchman, although the Portuguese tactician could cost as much as €20m (£16.7m) to hire.

It comes after Manchester United held talks with Xavi – before ultimately deciding to pursue the man born in Lisbon instead to help lift them away from 14th in the Premier League.

As discussions between Manchester United and Ruben Amorim continue, Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan has shared an interesting piece of information regarding Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was not expected to stay if Erik ten Hag departed

♐The respected journalist spoke to the on the Monday Night Club after Ten Hag was sacked, where he suggested a U-turn had been made regarding a summer agreement involving Van Nistelrooy.

𓆉Van der Kraan said: “I think Manchester United would have pressed Ruud van Nistelrooy very hard to stay. It was understood in the summer that if Erik ten Hag went, Van Nistelrooy would follow him. He’s not the type to stab Erik ten Hag in the back.”

𝔉To us, that would suggest INEOS do not expect to hire Amorim quickly, and needed the 48-year-old to stay at Old Trafford ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash against Leicester City, and Sunday’s Premier League encounter against Chelsea.

If the Dutchman is still around for these games, Van Nistelrooy is likely to use a 4-3-3 formation🅠 based on his previous stint in charge of PSV Eindhoven.

Ruben Amorim likely to bring his own staff to Manchester United

🐼Should INEOS prove successful in their bid to appoint Amorim, we doubt Van Nistelrooy will stay at Old Trafford.

🍸The 39-year-old currently has a strong coaching staff in Lisbon, with Emanuel Ferro, Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido and Joao Pereira all working as his assistant managers.

🌳Therefore, unless INEOS force Amorim to keep Van Nistelrooy around, we would expect the man born in Oss to depart as well as Ten Hag.
