Manchester United: Dier on Herrera; defender unlikely to join United; Wilkins hints at Terry coup

Ander Herrera made his international debut for Spain against England at Wembley last night after some good performances for Manchester United this season. . The Spaniard has an aggressive side to his game as has been on show in the Premier League at times and it is an area that he needs to improve.

“I think it’s pretty clear what he did and I can feel it on my cheek now, so I know what he did, and I don’t like that kind of stuff.

“I don’t mind people kicking each other at times and stuff but that’s just dirty and not needed. I’ve made a pass and it was a long time afterwards and he’s elbowed me in the face and I just can’t see why. For me, it’s just ridiculous.”

The Spanish international has been an important player for Jose Mourinho this season and he will be full of confidence after making his international debut for Spain. He has had a mixed spell at Old Trafford, but now has the opportunity to play a prominent role this season and he needs to take it. Jose Mourinho should move to a 4-3-3 partnering Herrera with Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick. This would free Paul Pogba, which should be Mourinho’s major priority when it comes to team selection.

Manchester United will be planning to make some transfer moves in January to further strengthen their squad and provide Mourinho with all the tools that he needs to achieve his aims this season. that Raphael Varane is unlikely to move to Manchester United, as the Frenchman wants to spend the rest of his career at Real Madrid. He was signed by Mourinho at the Spanish club and there was hope that he would bring him to Old Trafford as well, but doesn’t look promising now.

There is a need for Manchester United to bring a centre back to the club in January after injuries to Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling, especially as Mourinho hasn’t taken to the latter in any case. Throughout his managerial career, Mourinho has always coached sides with a good defence and United’s start to the season will concern him. He will want to bring a big name centre back to the club in January, but Varane won’t be that man.

A controversial rumour doing the rounds comes from that he believes John Terry could make a shock move to Manchester United. The Chelsea captain has only played a limited role this season and it looks unlikely that he will be retained next summer, despite his legend status at the club. That said, he still has something to offer to the Premier League and his former coach doesn’t think that he would be interested in a move to China, despite the links with Shanghai SIPG.

“I couldn’t agree more (that Terry will snub China move), I don’t think China will be on John’s radar.

“What about Old Trafford? He’s not playing for Chelsea but I think he still has plenty to offer.”

This would be an odd move and one that creates a lot of controversy, but the moves of Frank Lampard (to Manchester City) and Petr Cech (to Arsenal) suggest that this isn’t completely unrealistic. Mourinho and Terry have a great relationship and he could provide the solution to his current defensive problems. At his age, I’m not convinced that Manchester United should move for him, but he would provide experience to the squad and could be a good short term answer.
