Manchester United claimed to have already made a poor £25m signing under Ruben Amorim

Manchester United have seriously struggled with recruitment across the last decade.

Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford, the Red Devils have rarely made a good signing, with just a handful of smart additions snapped up amidst a barrage of dross.

This poor recruitment strategy has left Bruno Fernandes currently sticking out like a sore thumb as the only player worthy of playing for Manchester United right now – the Portugal international often cuts a frustrated figure as teammates fail to match his quality.

Fans hoped the arrival of INEOS would change things, but there is yet to be proof of this after a weak summer of recruitment, which included the £42m signing of Manuel Ugarte and the £43m capture of Matthijs de Ligt.

Now, Manchester United have been told their most recent addition – Patrick Dorgu – is far from convincing either.

Speaking on , Nigel Reo-Coker has now criticised the Denmark international, who Manchester United signed in a £25m move from Lecce on February 2nd.

The man who made 205 Premier League appearances said: “I am getting bored because, still to this day, don’t see any progression whatsoever. I can’t say I see light at the end of the tunnel.

“Amorim brought in Patrick Dorgu – has he come in and made an impact? No. Then there is the changing of centre-backs in games, so I don’t see any progression.”

Dorgu was scouted extensively by Manchester United – so this was far from a panic buy.

Harsh on Patrick Dorgu

We feel that is quite a harsh assessment of the Dane – who has only made ten appearances for Manchester United so far, providing one assist.

Very few players on the planet would have been able to make an instant impact at Old Trafford on their own given the current state of Manchester United, let alone a 20-year-old defender with four caps for Denmark.

Dorgu, who Tottenham wanted, is a work in progress – rather than someone like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was able to make an immediate impact due to his wealth of experience upon joining in July 2016 at the age of 34.

Unfortunately, Manchester United fans will just have to be patient – there is simply no quick fix to over ten years of shambolic recruitment.
