Manchester United candidates make contact as they consider future of Erik ten Hag
Manchester United are being contacted by representatives and intermediaries about a host of potential candidates to replace Erik ten Hag as anticipation grows that they are ready to part company with the Dutchman.
United enjoyed a good summer off-the-field after spending nearly £200million on some huge names including the likes of Matthijs de Ligt, Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro.
However, United’s form has been nothing short of poor and TBR Football revealed last month that the club’s hierarchy were growing increasingly with their performances.

Pressure is growing on Erik Ten Hag
We are told from sources that there is a belief from some within the club that they already know who they would like to succeed Ten Hag – should they decide to bring his tenure to an end, possibly even this weekend.
United spent a chunk of the summer assessing options to replace Ten Hag, before keeping him and handing him an extension but they are far from satisfied with how this season has so far panned out with just two league wins to their name.
TBR Football understands that Ten Hag’s contract extension does not mean that a change is not forthcoming.
United sources deny that a decision has been made on a potential successor, but due to their summer assessment they are well aware of the options available to them.
Gareth Southgate leading contender for Old Trafford role
We understand that former England boss Gareth Southgate is someone that does appeal to the club’s footballing department – led by Dan Ashworth. Southgate is seen as a confident and thoroughly professional option and one who would represent a very good fit for United’s new regime.
Southgate is also known to be close to Sir Dave Brailsford, the right hand man of United’s co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and a current member of the club’s board.
However, it is clear that United’s footballing department are aware of a number of other names that would be available to them.
We can confirm that United have been contacted by representatives and intermediaries about potential options, including the likes of Thomas Tuchel, Max Allegri and Graham Potter – who were all considered in the summer.
It is believed that Brentford’s Thomas Frank is also held in high regard by the club, should they indeed be looking for a new replacement. Former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi was also on their radar but he has since joined Marseille and is impressing in the South of France.
United face Porto on Thursday, but the game that could spell the end of Ten Hag’s is the trip to Aston Villa on Sunday after just one win their last five league games which included an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham at the weekend.
