Manchester United 2-0 Hull City: Three things we learnt

Manchester United will take a two-goal advantage into the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final against Hull City. They were professional and took their winning run to nine matches, their best run since February 2009. Jose Mourinho is clearly targeting success in this competition and played a near full-strength side. Although Hull City were resilient, injury problems are currently plaguing their squad and the talent difference was evident on the day. It is difficult to see them turning this one around in the second leg. Here are three things that we learnt:

Paul Pogba is seriously good at football

This isn’t new information, but it is great to see Paul Pogba dominating in the centre of the park for Manchester United. He had a slow start and there were some doubting his signing. However, Jose Mourinho has now adapted his style of play and it is allowing the Frenchman to thrive at Old Trafford. He was asked to play a deeper role on Tuesday, similar to the one that he struggled in at the beginning to the season, but he is much more confident and settled in now and that showed.

Pogba delivered a complete midfield performance and showed that he can dictate the tempo in possession, while also working hard when his side doesn’t have the ball. The Frenchman had a 100% tackle success rate and won all six of his aerial duels. However, it was his passing that impressed most as he completed 88% of his passes, including three key passes. His range of passing was superb and if he continues to dominate matches in this manner, United are going to become one of the best attacking sides in the league. He almost capped off his performance with a goal as he hit the post from a free-kick.
