Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva lauds Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta
Bernardo Silva has suggested that he is not surprised to see Arsenal in Premier League title contention, with the Portuguese praising Mikel Arteta – in comments reported by .
The Gunners are giving Manchester City a good scare this season. Arsenal now sit five points clear at the top of the Premier League table having only lost one game all term. In fact, the goalless draw with Newcastle last time out marked the first time they have failed to win at home, and the first time they have failed to score.

Arsenal’s progress will have taken most by surprise. Of course, last season ended in huge disappointment as they failed to hold onto a place inside the top-four.

However, it seems that Bernardo is not shocked to see Arsenal in contention for the title this season, with Arteta receiving particular praise.

“We knew there was a possibility of a huge growth at Arsenal this season,” he said, as reported by the . “They have a very good manager and lots of young players full of desire to win. It doesn’t surprise me.”
Of course, those at City would have known better than most just how dangerous the Gunners could be. Arteta worked under Pep Guardiola before taking the job at the Emirates.
Meanwhile, they signed both Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko in the summer. The pair played important roles in the success the Cityzens have enjoyed in recent years.
They have all taken that winning mentality with them to Arsenal. And they have played their part in transforming the club’s fortunes.
Whatever happens this season, Arsenal should now be back amongst the heavyweights. They have such an exciting squad. And so many of their players are only going to get better in the coming years.
Of the eight players who have started at least 16 Premier League games this season, Granit Xhaka is the only player over the age of 25.
Bernardo may claim that it was on the cards. But truly, what Arteta has done at Arsenal has been remarkable.
