Manchester City round-up: Guardiola closes in on Juventus striker; defender targeted; manager on Aguero future
According to , Manchester City are seemingly coming closer to beating Real Madrid to the signing of highly-rated Juventus striker Paulo Dybala this summer.
The report alleges that contact has already been made on numerous occasions over the past few weeks, and a move for the 23-year-old could be sealed if City make an appropriate offer.
Dybala, who has scored five times for the Italian side in Serie A so far this season, has a release clause of around £38 million; but it is believed Guardiola will offer £25 million plus a player.
The Juve man’s contract runs out in 2020, but it is believed a large enough offer would be enough to tempt the Argentinian to the Etihad Stadium for next season.
With one Argentine international potentially on his way in, right-back Pablo Zabaleta could be part of Guardiola’s summer cull at the Etihad amidst rumours of a move to West Ham.
Manchester City’s Premier League rivals are interested in bringing the 32-year-old to London as it is becoming increasingly unlikely that he’ll be offered a new deal.
Zabaleta, along with fellow wing-back Bacary Sagna, are both available on free transfers and West Ham manager Slaven Bilic could be tempted to bring in experience to his back-line with the duo.
The City defenders have managed 26 Premier League appearances between them this campaign, but Guardiola looks set to invest in youth over the summer – forcing them to look elsewhere.
Pep Guardiola has spoken out again after the speculation over Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero’s future rumbles on, urging his forward to “show me again how good you are”.
to Bournemouth on Monday evening, the Spaniard reinforced the fact that he hopes the Argentinian stays – but he failed to dismiss rumours of him leaving.
He said:
“At the end of the season I don’t know. I know how difficult it is to find top goal-scorers.
“I would like him to stay, but I don’t know what is going to happen. Even in my career I didn’t know what would happen at the end of the season.
“Sergio knows the intention of his manager and the club. I don’t want to sell him, I want him to stay here for a long time until he decides.”
Aguero has been dropped to the substitutes bench for City’s previous two Premier League matches after Gabriel Jesus’ impressive start to life in England.
The 19-year-old Brazilian has scored three times in three league appearances since arriving in January, and it is expected that he will once again start ahead of Aguero on Monday evening.
