Manchester City round-up: Germany international linked; Southampton want Hart; Zabaleta could depart
Manchester City are becoming increasingly interested in Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich after he expressed his frustration at a lack of football for the German side, .
Kimmich, 22, has openly detailed his growing discontent at the German giants after a lack of action under the leadership of Carlo Ancelotti – despite making 36 appearances for the club last season.
Speaking about his lack of first-team football, the German international said:
“It does not matter whether I understand it or not, the fact is I’m not satisfied with it and I want to change it.
“The coach knows I can play as a number six and at right-back, also in the centre of defence. In the Bundesliga we have a good lead now and maybe [the team] will be rotated.”
Kimmich previously played under Guardiola when he joined Bayern Munich under the Spaniard’s tenure, and it is possible that this previous link could tempt him into a reunion at the Etihad.
The 22-year-old has only played 42 minutes of football in Bayern’s previous five matches, only managing to complete a full 90 minutes of football twice in the past five months.
With Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart last week, The Sun have reported that Premier League rivals Southampton could be ready to join a race to sign him.
the Saints are concerned about the future of their own England goalkeeper, Fraser Forster, and are preparing themselves for a shock move to bring in the out-of-favour Hart.
Hart has been on loan at Italian side Torino since a summer fall-out with City boss Pep Guardiola, and it is believed that the 28-year-old will not be part of City’s plans once he returns to England.
This comes just a week Torino president Urbano Cairo’s desire to keep Hart in Italy, citing that their ‘excellent relationship’ with the England goalkeeper could persuade him to remain.
Another player who could be shown the exit door at the Etihad in the summer transfer window is City defender Pablo Zabaleta, who is reportedly wanted by a number of Premier League clubs.
that West Ham – amongst a host of others – are keeping tracks of Zabaleta’s situation ahead of a potential exit from Pep Guardiola’s side once the season ends.
The 32-year-old’s future is in doubt as it is believed that Guardiola will re-shape his defence, bringing in younger reinforcements as he looks to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
Zabaleta, who has been at City for nine years, could make the move to London as he seeks regular first-team action after only featuring in 14 out of 27 Premier League matches this campaign.
