Manchester City fans react rave about Ilkay Gundogan in win over Dortmund

Man City scored a late winner in their Champions League quarter-final clash first leg against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night, as Phil Foden netted to win 2-1 – and City fans have reacted to Ilkay Gundogan’s display.

Coming into the match, City have more or less wrapped up the Premier League title and their main focus will now switch to finally adding a Champions League trophy to their list of accolades. But they were far below their best.

Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring on 19 minutes, though. Having won the ball back, City broke and Phil Foden found Riyad Mahrez with his cross. The Algerian then picked out an onrushing De Bruyne who finished.

City then got away with one – with Jermaine Jenas suggesting during commentary that Jude Bellingham was unfortunate not to have scored, when he tackled Ederson. Replays showed that Ederson was indeed, fortunate.

However, Dortmund got an away goal late on as Marco Reus finished with aplomb – Erling Haaland providing the assist against the team he has been linked so strongly with, and his father’s former side.

But there was still time for City to strike a dagger into the hearts of Dortmund’s side. Good work from Gundogan found Foden inside the six-yard box who swept the ball past Marwin Hitz.

The away goal gives Dortmund a chance ahead of the second leg in Germany, but City fans were impressed with the efforts of Gundogan – who City signed from Dortmund in 2016 for £21million ().
