Manager with £13m clause is ‘willing to change’ clubs after being high on Liverpool’s shortlist
Xabi Alonso continued to be strongly linked with the Liverpool job as he shines as Bayer Leverkusen boss – but he is not the only manager Liverpool are supposedly considering, to replace Jurgen Klopp.
Alonso has sparkled in his role at Bayer Leverkusen, and looks set to guide the German outfit to the Bundesliga title ahead of a struggling Bayern Munich. Harry Kane will miss out on another domestic title.
Plenty of other managers have been linked with The Reds. Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim, and Lens gaffer Franck Haise have both been suggested as possible suitors for the role. Another, is Robert De Zerbi.
Richard Hughes and MIchael Edwards are being tasked with finding Klopp’s replacement. Hughes is said to be a big fan of the Brighton manager, and would really like the Italian at Liverpool this summer.

Liverpool target Roberto De Zerbi ready to change clubs
Edwards is said to have earmarked the former Sassuolo gaffer as a possible contender for The Reds job. Liverpool are not alone in pursuit of him though, with Newcastle possibly coming into the conversation.
Now, a new report from . They claim that De Zerbi is ‘willing to change’ clubs at the end of the season after impressing at Brighton. Liverpool, Bayern, Chelsea and Manchester United all listed as admirers.
The report also claims that interested parties would neet to meet the release clause in his Brighton deal – which currently stands at a lofty £13m. Whether that proves to be a sticking point, remains to be seen.
Ben Jacobs has said in the past to that De Zerbi is high on Liverpool’s radar – above a surprise move for Tottenham gaffer Ange Postecoglou, anyway. So, De Zerbi is keen on a move to Anfield.

Alonso or De Zerbi – who should Liverpool go for?
Tactically, there are not many better managers in the Premier League than De Zerbi. Indeed, the Italian has drawn praise from Man City manager Pep Guardiola for the way he has got his Brighton side playing.
There is no doubt that he would suit Liverpool. A focus on attack, attractive football, smart in the transfer window and tactically adept. But would he win over the Liverpool support – over Leverkusen boss Alonso?
Fans want Alonso, given he played for Liverpool in the past – scoring in the comeback Champions League final win over Milan in Istanbul. On paper, Alonso is the best fit – because of what he has done in the past.
But, Liverpool face competition for Alonso – from the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern. So, if Liverpool cannot go for Alonso, and miss out on the Spaniard, De Zerbi would be a very good second choice.
