Manager thinks 25-year-old Arsenal target could now end up at Manchester City

Dean Smith has suggested that he could now see Arsenal target Douglas Luiz returning to Manchester City in the future.

Smith was speaking to as he also explaine🐭d how the Aston Villa midfielder surprised him earlier this season.

Douglas Luiz has definitely been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this term. He has scored five goals for Aston Villa this season🅰. M🍒eanwhile, he has also provided two assists.

Arsenal target Douglas Luiz tipped for Manchester City move

He has definitely improved immeasurably since an underwhelming first few monthsꦗ at Villa Park. And it seems that his form is not going un𝓀noticed by other sides in the Premier League.

Arsenal have reportedly m🌜ade Douglas Luiz their number one target for January. Mikel Arteta’s side are fighting for the Premier League title once again. And it appears that Arse🐎nal have lost patience with T🎐homas Partey.

But perhaps they may have to battle with Manchester City for his signature. Dean Smith wa𓂃s in charge o💜f Villa when they signed Luiz from the Cityzens. And he believes that the champions could look to bring him back in the future.

“With Dougie, I didn’t know an aw🃏ful lot about him, but Suso [former Villa sporting director Jesus García Pitarch] sold him to me,” he told . “He was the best player in training all the time, but when he first came to Villa, the language was a barrier. He’s from a favela in Brazil, so his education was maybe a bit different from some of the lads.

“Once he started to integrate more and build relationships, then you could see the improvement. He surprised me at the West Ham game when he saw me and he spoke English to me because it would be very ra꧑re he would do tha𝔉t when I was in charge.

“Pep [Guardiola] really liked him, but I think City had a🍬 big problem because he wouldn’t play enough to get his work permit. I think City moved beyond him in that first season in the Premier League. They had a buy-back clause and it was good for Villa that they didn’t take it up, but you could see him going and playing there now.”

Definitely one to watch ahead of next summer

It already appears that Luiz is highly unlikely to move in January. But Arsenal have shown that they are prepared to make some big moves in the summer windows𝓰.

And signing Luiz would see their squad move to the next level, o🤪n current evidence. The Gunners have such an impressive starting lineup. But they could arguably do with greater depth in the middle of the park.

However, this season has shown beyond doubt, how important Rodri is to 🍎Manchester City’s midfield. So they 🦹will also be looking to strengthen in that position before too long.

And given that Luiz has 𒀰already signed for Manchester City once, they may perhaps be confident༺ that they will indeed be able to bring him back.
