Manager suggests his £50m attacker could still leave after being linked with Arsenal

Although a lot of the focus is currently on Arsenal’s deal for Mikel Merino, the Gunners also want to sign a new wide-forward before August ends.

ꦗMikel Arteta came into the summer wanting a defender, a midfielder and an attacker to boost his options for the new season, aiming to close the minute gap to Manchester City.

To that end, Arsenal🌟 have signed the defender on their wishlist in the shape of Riccardo Calafiori.

Arsenal may not start Calafiori against Wolves🍷 on the weekend, but once the Italian has settled he should be an important option for Arteta.

William Saliba loved Calafiori’s Arsenal debut💦 against Lyon last Sunday, a 25 minute cameo that was full of pace, power and composure.

And in terms of a midfielder signing, Arsenal may even launch a surprise move whilst they stall on a deal for Merino.

🀅But right now, it seems hardest to decipher who Arsenal will add in attack.

Nico Williams was Arsenal’s number one target𒁃, but the club seem to have somewhat lost hope of signing the Spaniard this summer.

Arsenal may have late chance to sign Nico Williams before Deadline Day

It’s widely believed that Williams✨ will now be staying at Athletic Club, not ready to leave him boyhood club.

🙈However, William’s manager Ernesto Valverde has perhaps just fired up the rumour-mill once again with his words on the situation.

ꦰSpeaking via Spanish outlet , Valverde seemed to suggest that anything could happen yet, expressing that was the nature of the transfer window.

🤡Valverde said: “I have nothing to say, the market is open. We have players like Nico who are doing well here, but the market is open until the 30th, so that we and the rest of the teams can improve their squads. I see Nico in very good shape.

🐽“That Nico can continue with us this season is important in terms of our own self-esteem. I don’t know what can happen, but I certainly see it as very good. We have always been very clear in that sense.”

Perhaps Valverde’s words could be the encouragement Arsenal need to make one more big play for Williams, who is thought to cost around £50m.

All that being said, a different Arsenal target now wants to join PSG💝 this summer, someone who could have acted as a Williams alternative.
