Manager says Tottenham have ‘the complete player’ but Antonio Conte has only started him twice

Wales international manager Rob Page has hailed Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon, who is currently on loan at Rennes.

As per , Antonio Conte has only started Rodon twice during his reign before loaning him out, and never in the Premier League.

Spurs were in the market for a new central defender this summer, loaning in Clement Lenglet from Barcelona, with Conte clearly not seeing Rodon as the solution.

Speaking to the , Page said it is great to see Rodon out on loan getting gametime and talked up how good he can be at his best.

Page hails Rodon

“He’s obviously done his homework on Rennes and the league,” said Page.

“I think it will suit him as he’s got all the attributes of a top-class centre-half. He’s massive for us and he’s never let me down, but you can’t continue to not play because eventually it will catch up with you.

“When he’s playing week in and week out and coming into camp full of confidence he is the complete player.

“I love to see Joe on the ball and driving forward. Playing out there in that league will give him the opportunity to do that repetitively every week.”

Rodon is one of a number of Wales players who made moves during the transfer window to boost their gametime before the World Cup.

He would probably have got into the Wales team even without leaving Spurs, but it means he will go to Qatar in better form and fitness this way.

It is down to the 24-year-old to offer a reminder of the qualities which convinced Tottenham to sign him out on loan and he and Page will hope for a successful tournament later this year.
