‘Special’: Manager says Rangers star is genuinely good enough to play for Liverpool
Rangers captain James Tavernier has been hailed as good enough to play for Liverpool if Trent Alexander-Arnold wasn’t around.
Steve Evans was Tavernier’s loan manager at Rotherham and speaking to the , he has lavished high praise on the right-back.
That was backed up by Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Warburton, who was the man who brought Tavernier to Ibrox during his reign in charge.

“The best plaudit I could give him is he could play for Liverpool if Alexander-Arnold was out. He could compete in the Manchester City team. He would suit both,” said Evans.
“In the last couple of seasons, seven or eight good Premier League managers have asked me about him. But the only reason he hasn’t left isn’t because people won’t pay the money.
“He’s never said he wants to leave. Rangers fans have a special captain.”
Warburton added: “People have asked me: ‘Why doesn’t Tav come down south?’. Well, it’s got to be some offer. He’s playing in Europe at one of the biggest clubs with a fantastic history and magnificent fanbase, why would he want to leave?”

Tavernier has the chance to lead Rangers into the last four of the Europa League tonight when they host Braga looking to overturn a 1-0 first leg defeat.
That is more than doable, especially at home, where the atmosphere for these European fixtures has been outstanding and will no doubt be the same again tonight.
And Tavernier may be good enough to battle for a starting spot at Champions League clubs in England but he is Rangers’ leader and that cannot be underestimated.
