Manager says midfielder reportedly keen on Arsenal move has ‘power, athleticism and technical qualities’

Reported Arsenal target Yves Bissouma has previously been described by Graham Potter as a player who “makes good decisions” and has the “power, athleticism and technical qualities” to deal with the ball.

The 24-year-old is currently at Brighton, having joined the Premier League side from Lille in 2018 for a reported £15million fee, and has been excellent for Potter’s team this season, with 16 Premier League starts and 120 minutes in the FA Cup this term.

According to , citing a close friend of Bissouma’s, the midfielder ‘loves the Premier League’ and would choose Arsenal over any other Premier League club if they came in for him.

In addition, the Mali international has close relationship with his former Lille teammates -and current Arsenal players – Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel Magalhaes, with the pair understood to speak regularly.

And the ball is apparently already rolling, with contact said to have been made with Bissouma’s agent Michael N’Cho, but a summer move is seen as more realistic as Arsenal have set their sights on a creative midfield arrival in January.

Potter has outlined the midfielder’s key strengths, being quoted by as saying: “He wins a lot of balls back and physically he is in a good place.

“He makes good decisions and he has the power, athleticism and technical qualities to deal with the ball. It’s then just the tactical understanding which I think he has developed.”

Bissouma has certainly shown he’s a cut above at Brighton and surely it won’t be long before a leading club snaps him up.

That said, with a contract until 2023, the ball is very much in the Seagulls’ court regarding his future and how much they could want for him.

He’d certainly be worth it though, given he’s young and proven at Premier League and international level, not to mention having plenty of plaudits sent his way.

Former Lille teammate Lebo Mothiba previously told all about how good Bissouma can be, both on and off the field.

“He is a very good midfielder, very skilful and he has confidence,” he said.

“Each and every time he is always looking for the ball and, when he has the ball, he makes the difference. He is very skilful and he is very strong.”
