Manager says Arsenal loanee is ‘technically very strong’ and ‘very valuable’, reportedly wants to buy him

Arsenal loanee Matteo Guendouzi is doing very well away from the Emirates Stadium this season.

The 21-year-old is spending the 2020-21 campaign at Hertha Berlin, reporting that they’re covering his wages for the duration of the loan spell.

Guendouzi joined Arsenal in 2018 from French outfit Lorient, the Gunners reportedly paying £7million for his services, and he has clocked up 82 competitive appearances to date for the club.

However, he was frozen out at the Emirates Stadium in wake of an incident with Brighton striker Neal Maupay towards the end of their Premier League clash in June.

To date, Guendouzi has made seven appearances for Hertha, playing the full 90 minutes in each of their last six Bundesliga games, and has claimed one goal and one assist.

According to German outlet , as translated by , the capital club is interested in signing the Frenchman permanently.

And Hertha boss Bruno Labbadia hailed the midfielder’s leadership qualities and technical abilities in an interview with the outlet.

“He is very, very valuable to us,” said Labbadia. “We are happy that we were able to sign him.

“He’s a very, very good footballer, who has a good sense of space and is technically very strong.

“Even though he’s young, he gives instructions. He is not at all interested in whether he speaks the language.”

Although Guendouzi and Arteta reportedly had a falling out in the summer, the midfielder is going about things the right way in terms of redeeming himself.

However, Hertha reportedly wanting him permanently would leave Arsenal with a tough decision to make, given the player’s contract expires in 2022 – do they sell him in January when they could still fetch a fairly high price for him?

That said, if Guendouzi goes on to shine over the coming years while the Gunners continue to flounder, then it’ll look like a terrible decision, particularly if Mikel Arteta – who has frozen the player out – were to get the sack.
