Manager of Tottenham and Leeds-linked defender comments on player’s future
SC Freiburg manager Christian Streich that he may be forced to sell prized asset Robin Koch this summer in order for the Bundesliga club to balance the books – which could put Leeds and Tottenham on red alert.
Koch, 23, has impressed for Freiburg in their fight to avoid a relegation scrap once again this season – missing just one of Freiburg’s 25 Bundesliga matches. Indeed, Freiburg are sitting in a lofty eighth place, and just a point off sixth place.
Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta told the earlier this year that Koch had been scouted by the Championship leaders. Italian outlet claim Tottenham are keen, while Portuguese site say he can be signed for just £11million.
Now, Streich is likely to have placed Leeds, Tottenham and any other sides on red alert by stating that Freiburg will be forced to sell the likes of Koch and their other star players in order to keep the club afloat – claiming the club survives from transfers.
“At the moment, I can’t say whether Robin will play for another club next year,” Streich told Sky, “We are a club that relies on transfer proceeds. The most important thing for us is that we are financially healthy.”

TBR’s view – Which club would suit Koch?
The difference between the two English sides currently stands at an entire division, while Tottenham’s new stadium and training facilities is certainly more than tantalising. Jose Mourinho and Marcelo Bielsa are two of the world’s best managers.
Tottenham is obviously the better club, but they have enormous options at centre-back and the chances of game time would be small. Indeed, Koch would be on the fringes – something completely opposite at Leeds.
At Elland Road, Leeds boast Liam Cooper and Ben White but the latter is only on loan. Leeds will be keen to sign White but the chances of landing the Brighton star remains to be seen – so Koch could be his replacement.
If they gain promotion, Leeds may lure Koch to Elland Road.
