Manager now hints 26-year-old could leave amid reports Tottenham have made a bid
Xavi has now suggested Frenkie de Jong could leave Barcelona this summer – amid reports Tottenham have just made a bid.
The 44-year-old made the comments when speaking in his press conference earlier on Friday.
So, what did Xavi say about Tottenham target Frenkie de Jong? Let’s take a look…
Xavi fails to confirm Frenkie de Jong will stay at Barcelona
Well, the Spaniard was far from definitive when asked about the 26-year-old Netherlands international’s future in Catalonia.
Xavi is by Fabrizio Romano as saying: “He’s a world class player and it’s not the right moment to talk about this. The club and the player will sit together and talk about his situation at the end of the season.”
It comes after Gerard Romero that Tottenham have made a £51m bid for De Jong.

A story from Spanish news outlet revealed that Barcelona are considering the offer given the club’s need to raise funds this summer, following a period of chaotic spending under Josep Bartomeu.
De Jong has made appearances in all competitions for Barcelona so far this season, scoring one goal.
Frenkie de Jong almost joined Tottenham in 2019
De Jong has actually been a Tottenham target for some time now.
Spurs made an attempt to sign the Dutchman from Ajax back in 2019 before he eventually sealed a £65m move to Barcelona – as confirmed by the midfield maestro himself.
De Jong Sky Sports: “I considered their (Tottenham) offer long and hard. I see Tottenham as a very stable club, and they are only getting better.
“They give young players a chance and I see Mauricio Pochettino as a manager who really improves young players. I like the kind of football they are playing. I think it would have suited my game.”

Of course, Pochettino has since departed N17 – although Ange Postecoglou is just as trusting of young players, so De Jong’s verdict on Spurs still rings true.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as the Barcelona No.21 seems likely to be sold this summer.
