Manager confirms ‘brilliant’ defender has been offered new contract after Tottenham show interest

Tottenham Hotspur have now secured the signature of four players this summer as just over two weeks remain in the window.

The Lilywhites did not exactly gett off to the fastest of starts in the summer window when it comes to player arrivals.

Ange Postecoglou welcomes Timo Werner and Archie Gray in the early stages but then there was a considerable wait until the addition of Dominic Solanke.

For Tottenham, this summer has provided Postecoglou with an opportunity to really fine tune this squad having spent a season assessing his options.

A lot of players have left the club with the Australian having inherited a bloated squad from Antonio Conte’s time at the club.

But there is one player who Tottenham have been considering bringing in to the club this summer who has now been offered a new contract.

Tottenham summer target has just been offered new deal

Tottenham have now seen Emerson Royal leave the club for AC Milan after weeks and weeks of negotiations finally came to an end.

This has since sparked fresh speculation about a new right-back coming in with Tottenham expected to put forward a £34m offer for Monaco defender Vanderson.

But Tottenham have also shown an interest in Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters whose manager Russell Martin has just spoken about his future.

Speaking to , Martin has now confirmed that Walker-Peters has been offered a new contract down on the south coast.

“He’s a top player and he was brilliant for us last season,” said Martin.

“We are in discussions with him and he will make a decision based on his career. If he leaves it won’t be because we don’t want to or haven’t tried to keep him.

“In the short term, I hope he’s here for this season whatever happens. It’s not ideal for someone to be in the last year of their contract, but last year Stuart Armstrong and Che Adams showed if they’re all in and committed, they can contribute hugely.

“If Kyle ends up staying, which I hope he does, the best-case scenario is he signs a new contract and everyone’s happy, and the worst case for me right now is he stays and is then on a free next summer but he helps us stay in the Premier League, so it’s a win-win in the short term.”

Tottenham do not need to sign another right-back

Just over two weeks remain in the transfer window for Spurs to get their final pieces of business concluded and there are more pressing matters than a new right-back.

Pedro Porro has nailed down the starting spot in the XI and this summer has seen the resurgence of Djed Spence following some time away on loan.

Postecoglou has admitted Spence may have just saved his Tottenham career with his impressive displays in pre-season.

The two spots at right=back look covered which surely means focus has to be turned on to other areas of the squad – namely right wing – where Spurs could actually do with a new arrival.
