Man United’s Kobbie Mainoo sends one word message to Ollie Watkins after match-winning England goal
Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has now sent a message to Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins after his historic England goal in Wednesday’s semi-final.
Watkins’ late strike downed the Netherlands and sent England into dreamland, now destined to play in their first ever overseas final against Spain.
Ian Wright hailed Watkins for his impact off of the bench for Gareth Southgate – saying his pressing and positioning was just as impressive as his goal.
And although Watkins seems likely to remain on the sidelines initially on Sunday, he’ll be ready to provide a similar performance when needed.
Of course, Mainoo has definitely booked his place in Southgate’s starting team again – an exceptional young talent.
The 19-year-old once again showed composure beyond his years against the Dutch, the youngest-ever England player to play in the semi-finals of a major tournament.

Mainoo was arguably England’s best player in the first half, making timely interceptions and starting attacks for his country.
And after vividly celebrating Watkins’ goal before eventually afforded a rest, Mainoo summed up the striker’s performance in one word.
Kobbie Mainoo celebrates Ollie Watkins’ ‘clutch’ moment for England
Following his match-winning goal, Watkins took to to celebrate with both England and Villa fans.
The striker uploaded a collection of photos celebrating his moment of magic and England’s progression to another Euros final.
And the outpouring of support in the comments was pretty remarkable, and also well deserved.
One of Watkins’ teammates to reply was Mainoo, who simply wrote: “Clutch.”
Declan Rice also replied saying: “So happy for you”.
And fellow England striker Ivan Toney, who Watkins is competing for minutes with, replied saying: “What a guy mannn!!!”

It’s obvious that Southgate’s squad is so galvanised at this point, a team that is truly pulling in one direction.
And although Watkins is likely to still start on the bench against Spain as mentioned, the Aston Villa striker won’t complain, won’t make a fuss, and will be ready to win another game.
And in that sense, the same can be said for Ezri Konsa, who was similarly unfortunate to lose his spot against the Netherlands.
But all of these individuals are putting the team first – the reason why England have come this far.
