Man United think player Arsenal sold for £18m could help solve major issue at Old Trafford, he is likely to leave

Manchester United have signed a number of English players over the years.

The Old Trafford faithful have been blessed by the talents of homegrown superstars such as Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes in years gone by, along with other British icons like George Best.

However – in recent times – Manchester United have strayed away from signing Englishmen. Mason Mount, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were the only England internationals involved last time out against Newcastle who have cost a fee.

Now, the Red Devils could add to their English contingent with a move for Aaron Ramsdale.

are now claiming that Manchester United are keeping a close eye on the Southampton No.30 as both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir struggle in goal.

Ramsdale – who Arsenal sold to Southampton for back in August 2024 – has been scouted by the Red Devils in recent weeks, and they feel his Premier League experience could help to solve the issue in the goalkeeping department.

The England international can boast 177 Premier League appearances – but has suffered relegations with Bournemouth, Sheffield United and Southampton.

Ramsdale – who Pep Guardiola admires – is eager to stay in the Premier League to remain involved in the England setup, so it seems very unlikely he will stick with Southampton in the Championship.

The Sun do – however – add that Graham Potter sees the Southampton glovesman as a key summer target, so Manchester United will have to fend off West Ham if a deal is to materialise.

What TBR Football know about Aaron Ramsdale

A number of Premier League clubs want to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, with the 26-year-old a target for many.

TBR Football understand Newcastle also want Ramsdale as Nick Pope approaches his 33rd birthday and the final 12 months of his contract.

Bournemouth are also believed to be keen, with Kepa Arrizabalaga only on loan from Chelsea and unlikely to join permanently.
