Man United interested in signing ‘top level’ England international to help out Bruno Fernandes
Manchester United made the first move in their rebuild under Ruben Amorim when recruiting Patrick Dorgu from Lecce in January.
Dorgu immediately impressed during his first 45 minutes for Man United in the FA Cup, the kind of wing-back who Amorim was accustomed to working with at Sporting CP.
And in addition to Dorgu arriving, United were also able to offload Antony and Marcus Rashford in January – small steps in a new direction.
Of course, there’s still a huge squad overhaul to be conducted at Old Trafford, a roster of players who aren’t currently fit for purpose in terms of getting the most from Amorim’s 3-4-3.
In Dorgu’s debut against Leicester City in the FA Cup, Bruno Fernandes sat alongside Manuel Ugarte in midfield, a role that doesn’t get the most from his attacking talent.
Man United plotting summer move for Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton
That being said, are now reporting that United are considering a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton in the summer to move Fernandes further up the pitch.
Wharton joined Palace a year ago from Blackburn Rovers, a midfielder who was then being immediately linked with a move to a top Premier League side.

Unfortunately, Wharton has missed a lot of this season after undergoing groin surgery, but the midfielder has just returned for Oliver Glasner.
The England midfielder, who went to the Euros with Gareth Southgate’s side, is said to be one of four options on United’s radar.
According to the report, United could recruit more than one player in the middle, and Juventus’ Douglas Luiz, Atlanta’s Ederson and Sporting’s Morten Hjulmand are also being considered.
But Wharton – who has been described as ‘top level’, would surely be the most appealing of those options from a United fan perspective, a midfielder who already has some rapport with Kobbie Mainoo.
Ruben Amorim’s Man United rebuild is slowly starting
Unfortunately for Amorim, one United target has just signed a new contract at his current club, a wing-back who might have arrived in addition to Dorgu.
Surprisingly, Dorgu started as Amorim’s right wing-back against Leicester, despite predominantly being a left-sided option for Lecce.
Although, when Dorgu did score for his old side in the Serie A this season, it did often come from a right-wing role, a versatile talent who should thrive in this new era.
And it would certainly be a step in the right direction if United were able to sign Wharton too, a midfielder who has often been on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar.
