Man United determined to beat Man City to 17-year-old who dreams of playing at Old Trafford
- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Given their respective positions, it’s not been too often that Manchester United and Manchester City have competed for the same players of late.
Man United have seemingly leaned heavily on Erik ten Hag’s knowledge of the players he’s previously worked with, whereas Man City have often cast their own net slightly further.
In truth, it’s a difficult task for any club to beat Pep Guardiola’s side to any of the best young talents in world football right now – City’s scouting infrastructure is just so strong.
City signed 18-year-old Argentinian Claudio Echeverri in January, who will seemingly be one of the next big talents to emerge from South America.
That being said, TBR Football understands United are ready to try and strike a deal with Rosenborg for young Norwegian talent Sverre Nypan.
Man United hoping to fend off rival interest for Rosenborg wonderkid Sverre Nypan
17-year-old Nypan, who turns 18 in December, has long been on United’s radar and the club have held talks, which are set to accelerate in the coming weeks.
Nypan has already played over 50 games for Rosenborg’s senior side and is widely considered one of the best players for his age in world football.

United are understood to have been represented in Stavanger on Tuesday to see Nypan star in Norway under-21’s 5-1 demolition of Turkey.
But whilst United have been on Nypan’s trail since he was 15, they’re not the only team keeping close checks on him.
Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Marseille are also all interested, explaining why United are stepping up their efforts.
Man City have two young Norwegian talents on their shortlist
Man City are also watching Nypan closely, but the midfielder is not the only young Norwegian they are currently interested in.
Along with United, City were at the Viking Stadion to see Nypan in action, where they were also checking on Sindre Walle Egeli.
City have been watching the 18-year-old forward closely this season, who is now playing his football for FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark.
Everton were previously said to be interested in Nypan, who has often been dubbed as the next Martin Odegaard.
Incidentally, Nypan has admitted in the past that it would be a to play his football at Old Trafford, perhaps handing United a key advantage.
