Man City’s Stefan Ortega reveals how Arsenal’s Kai Havertz is actually viewed in Germany

Since making his way to Chelsea in 2020, Kai Havertz has arguably been one of the most divisive players in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta loves Havertz and only recently, the Arsenal boss was full of praise for his work ethic.

But others certainly disagree with the Spaniard, as Robbie Fowler admitted he does not fancy Havertz whatsoever.

Perhaps the question that has always surrounded Kai Havertz is where his best position is prompting several of his critics to continue being unconvinced by the German international as a player.

At Arsenal, the 25-year-old was initially signed as a left-sided midfielder as well.

But after months of experimenting with him in the middle of the mark, Mikel Arteta changed his mind and decided to field the German as a number nine.

Stefan Ortega says Kai Havertz is “underratedin Germany

Stefan Ortega has played with Havertz in the German national team and only when a player trains and players with a player do they truly realise their value.

Havertz, who is ruled out for the season are picking up a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s mid-season trip to Dubai will be determined to silence all his sceptics after recovering from his devastating setback.

As for Ortega, who was picking the best XI of German players to have played in the Premier League, Havertz remains “underratedin his homeland as the former Chelsea forward made his way into the Manchester City goalkeeper’s side.

Ortega told City’s official YouTube channel: “I think Havertz is a bit underrated. Not here in England, people here like him really but in Germany, he’s a bit underrated and he’s a really good striker./p>

With Havertz not being a traditional centre-forward, perhaps even the German public doubt whether he is good enough to lead the line for them.

In the past, Germany have had plenty of top-class strikers within their ranks such as Mario Gomez and Miroslav Klose and with that being the case, Arsenal’s number 29 perhaps might face some stick.

However, Arsenal insiders are huge fans of Havertz and that must mean a lot to the much-maligned forward.

The perception outside and within football about him seems vastly different, with Bukayo Saka admitting to always rating Havertz highly even before his move to the Emirates Stadium in 2023.

Declan Rice said Havertz is “unfairly scapegoated/h2>

Declan Rice claimed Havertz is “unfairly scapegoated/a> when asked whether that is the case after the North London Derby where the Gunners beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 last month.

“Do you think Kai [Havertz] gets unfairly scapegoated at times?/p>

Rice replied: “Yeah, definitely. But I think there’s a social media perception that people think and then when you actually come to the stadium and actually hear the real fans think and what they think, two different things./p>

“The cheer he got tonight, it was ridiculous. It was the loudest name of the night when his name got called out. You could tell it meant a lot to him and the way he just fights and scraps for 90 minutes and does it week in, week out, alright yeah, he might not score every week but what he does for the team is the most important, he’s been brilliant./p>
