Man City top scorers of 2024 as Erling Haaland leads the way but unexpected name finished 3rd

2024 is drawing to a close and it’s been another fantastic year for Manchester City.

It’s not been without its downsides. Pep Guardiola lost five games in a row for the first time in his career as Manchester City endured a terrible November and they fell short in the Champions League and FA Cup final.

But the Blues stormed to another Premier League title, becoming the first English team to ever claim it four years in a row.

There have been lots of fantastic goals along the way and here’s City’s top scorers from the year.

James McAtee – 1

James McAtee returned from his loan spell at Sheffield United as an established Premier League player and chose to stay at City to fight for a first team spot.

Opportunities have been rare so far but he has got his first senior goal for the club in 2024 after scoring in the 4-0 Champions League win over Slovan Bratislava.

Oscar Bobb – 1

A cruelly-timed injury has cut Oscar Bobb’s 2024 short, so he only managed to score just one goal but it was an extremely memorable one. The creative-midfielders sublime solo finish in the last minute against Newcastle in February was absolutely crucial in the title race.

Manuel Akanji – 1

Manuel Akanji’s single strike in 2024 came against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League.

Nathan Ake – 1

Nathan Ake’s only goal in 2024 came in the FA Cup with a winner against Tottenham in the FA Cup.

Savinho – 1

It took him a long time to get it but Savinho finally got his first goal for City in the final game of the year when he pounced on a rebound in the box against Leicester.

Rico Lewis – 2

Rico Lewis scored in three Premier League games in his career and all of them have come against Crystal Palace. In 2024, he scored in the 4-2 win last season and then got the leveller in the 2-2 in the current campaign before being sent off.

Ilkay Gundogan – 2

Ilkay Gundogan’s heroic return to City hasn’t exactly gone as well as expected so far but he has scored two goals. Both have come in the Champions League against Slovan Bratislava and Feyenoord.

Matheus Nunes – 3

After a ropey start to life at City, Matheus Nunes has begun to find his feet at the Etihad Stadium and has grabbed his first three goals for the club in the new season. He has scored against Sparta Prague, Watford and Tottenham.

John Stones – 4

Not an important scorer of goals by any means but John Stones is a scorer of important goals. Two of his three strikes this season came in the final seconds to earn crucial points and his single strike last term came against Liverpool.

Rodri – 4

City are desperately missing Rodri in the new campaign but not just for his defensive capabilities. The special Spaniard made himself an important attacking outlet over the last year, too, notching four goals in the second half of last season.

Mateo Kovacic – 5

Though not signed for his goals, Mateo Kovacic has still managed to find the back of the net five times over the last 12 months.

Jeremy Doku – 6

Jeremy Doku has shown some promise since joining in 2023 but hasn’t quite hit the heights many expected, with there being a lot of room for improvement with his goal contributions.

Bernardo Silva – 8

Bernardo Silva has been such an integral member of Guardiola’s squad for so long and yet he continues to deliver.

Though he is most valued for his high-octane energy and efficient use of the ball, he still managed to chip in with the odd goal and did so eight times in 2024.

Kevin De Bruyne – 8

Kevin De Bruyne has had injury issues over the last two seasons but when he finally returned to action in 2023/24 he played like a man making up for lost time and quickly ticked up his goals (as well as a amazing number of assists).

Those injuries have continued in the new season which means he only has two goals so far.

Julian Alvarez – 7

It’s quite worrying for the rest of City’s squad that Julian Alvarez is still so high up the list despite departing for Atletico Madrid in the summer.

Josko Gvardiol – 9

Perhaps surprisingly, City’s third-highest scorer of the year is defender Josko Gvardiol. The Croatian didn’t score his first goal since signing for the club until April when he started his run of five goals in nine games.

Though his defensive form has slumped in the new season, he has still managed to notch another four goals, including in the Manchester derby.

Phil Foden – 22

Phil Foden has had a difficult start to the new season after dealing with illness and then coming into a struggling side but he has still had a fantastic 2024. He has truly come into his own over the last year and scored a string of important goals as City stormed to the title.

Erling Haaland – 38

In a surprise to absolutely no one, Erling Haaland is far and away City’s top goal scorer in 2024 with a staggering 38 strikes to his name.

The Norwegian has come in for criticism for missing some golden chances and not scoring in the biggest of games of late but he remains absolutely lethal and City would be in trouble without him.
