Man City have held talks to buy £50m star who Liverpool thought they had already signed

Over the years, Manchester City and Liverpool have become firm rivals on the pitch, two sides who have often dueled for the Premier League crown.

Of course, Liverpool are set to win the league in Arne Slot’s first season with very little bother from Man City at least, a side who are simply hoping to win a spot in the Champions League.

It’s been a disappointing season from Pep Guardiola’s point of view, who will be determined to strengthen his squad over the summer working alongside new sporting director Hugo Viana.

City spent a considerable amount of funds in January but that shouldn’t deter a summer splurge too, when the club will potentially look to replace the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker.

And from Liverpool’s perspective they will also have funds to invest, a side who have stayed patient under Slot so far, a manager they are prepared to back this summer.

Man City have held talks to sign Milos Kerkez

That being said, Milos Kerkez will be Liverpool’s first summer signing according to some reports, a deal the club already think they’ve secured.

However, according to , City have now also entered the race for Kerkez, a full-back who’s been exceptional at Bournemouth this season.

The report explains how City are expected to offload a number of big names this summer, including the likes of Bernardo Silva and Jeremy Doku.

And as part of their plans to reinvest, City are said to be ‘admirers’ of Kerkez, even if they are not willing to engage in a bidding war with Liverpool.

That being said, City have held talks with Kerkez’s camp, however the report shares that the club were ‘far from impressed’ — which is perhaps good news for Liverpool.

Liverpool still in the driving seat for Kerkez

It’s become clear this season that it’s time for Liverpool to find their Andrew Robertson successor, a 31-year-old who would benefit from stronger competition.

Robertson has been a brilliant servant for Liverpool over the years, but he’s not being pushed by Kostas Tsimikas and the thought of the Scot dovetailing with Kerkez is a much stronger position for Slot.

It promises to be a busy summer for several Premier League clubs — Jack Grealish might leave City too.

But in terms of Kerkez’s future, it would still appear as if Liverpool are in the driving seat for the defender.

Kerkez should be available for around £50m this summer, a deal that will generate a serious amount of profit for Bournemouth, and one that should suit all parties.
