Man City contact agent of Andre Silva to discuss £34m transfer of Eintracht Frankfurt striker

According to , Man City have contacted the agent of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Andre Silva to discuss a summer transfer.

The Citizens are searching for Pep Guardiola’s next star number nine after parting with club icon Sergio Aguero. Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane has been linked, as well, and sees the Etihad as his preferred destination ().

But Man City have approached Silva’s representatives to discuss a potential move from Germany to the Premier League. The 25-year-old also has interest from La Liga champions Atletico Madrid after producing a sensational Bundesliga campaign.

Silva scored in the Bundesliga last season and trailed only Robert Lewandowski’s record-breaking return. The Bayern Munich forward broke Gerd Muller’s of 40 goals by netting 41 to help claim another title.

Silva’s efforts at Deutsche Bank Park failed to secure Die Adler Champions League football as they ended the campaign fifth. Yet Frankfurt would demand €40million (£34m) to sell the Portuguese, who also penned across all competitions last term.

Eintracht feel they must demand such a figure as his agent would be owed a quarter of any fee. The German outfit only paid (£8m) to sign Silva permanently from AC Milan last September after a season-long loan.

Man City are yet to approach Eintracht directly to discuss a potential summer transfer for Silva. Nor has his agent, who has only spoken with Frankfurt’s former Sporting Director Fredi Bobic over the club’s position.

TBR’s view: Man City should sign Silva

Silva endured a difficult time at Milan, but he has been a sensation for Eintracht since first moving to Frankfurt. His year on loan returned , yet nearly doubled both accounts last term. He also only failed to influence the scoring directly in just seven of his across all competitions.

A £34m fee may seem modest if Silva is now able to take those performances and deliver for Man City. As Guardiola would see that the well-rounded Portuguese star adapts to his system. He also has many years ahead to get even better.

Bobic was certainly full of praise when Silva extended his contract to 2023 last summer, noting via : “Over the last few months, we’ve seen what Andre is capable of. It was no accident that he was the second-best striker in the Bundesliga [behind Lewandowski] after the restart.

“He’s a young and flexible attacker, and he’s still got potential to improve. We’re confident we can take him to another level here in Frankfurt.”

Silva then enjoyed an even more prolific campaign as the mobile magician at the top of Eintracht’s attack. And while Die Adler will not be in the Champions League next season, their striker should be and Guardiola ought to see that it is with Man City.
