‘Make the change’… Chris Sutton calls for Sir Jim Ratcliffe to make huge decision at Manchester United

After watching Manchester United last night, Chris Sutton has now called for Sir Jim Ratcliffe to make a big move at Old Trafford.

United’s new owner has a ton to sort at the club, and it must be slightly daunting knowing where to start.

Erik ten Hag’s side are currently seventh in the Premier League and look to have no realistic chance of returning to Champions League football.

And as well as their lack of direction on the field, United’s transfer strategy for the last few years hasn’t been good enough either.

That being said, Sutton has now pin-pointed one decision that Ratcliffe can start with, be it immediately or in the summer.

Speaking on the ‘’ podcast, Sutton called for the new United owner to sack manager Erik ten Hag.

The pundit spoke at length about the club’s struggles and thought ten Hag was part of the issue.

Speaking on the podcast, Sutton said: “I think if you are looking at the team this season, and he will be looking at everything within the club, they will want to fix the leaks in the roof and improve the training ground. But what can he improve right now?

“I think it is time where he really needs to scrutinise Erik ten Hag and I think he will be thinking about a change.

“I think the safe thing to do would be to make the change in the summer and give himself time but if he evaluates Man United this season and looks at the results and the way that they have played, I think he should make the change now because they have been bottom half bullies.

“At home against teams in the bottom half they have dominated possession but against half decent teams at Old Trafford Man United have let themselves be dominated.

“This is a manager who has been in for 18 months now, when you look at Postecoglou and Emery and the changes they have made and their sides are progressive, Man United at this moment in time are going backwards and it’s like small comforts at this moment in time.”

It’s a big call

Man United fans might be slightly divided on the merits of Sutton’s call for Ratcliffe to sack ten Hag.

Whilst performances and the club’s progression hasn’t been good enough, it has also seemed like an impossible job at times.

Sutton named-dropped both Unai Emery and Ange Postecoglou as managers that have come in and instantly turned things around at their respective clubs.

But despite both having a lot to do when they arrived, both came to clubs ready to back a new regime with proper infrastructure in place.

Whether the same can be said about United is open for interpretation.

Either way, there have still been some positives on the pitch this season, individuals are still impressing.

And Micah Richards has now given big praise to one player in particular
