Lyon winger Martin Terrier could be Newcastle’s exciting alternative to Miguel Almiron

Newcastle United’s pursuit of Miguel Almiron might have gone quiet in recent weeks but that does not mean they have given up on signing a new attacking midfielder.

The Magpies have not given up hope of signing Atlanta United star Almiron but negotiations are coming to a standstill, .

As a result, it seems that Newcastle have weighed up alternative options. , Lyon starlet Martin Terrier is the latest target for Newcastle.

Terrier has been with Lyon for 12 months, since his January 2018 switch from Lille.

Despite his young age, the 21-year-old already has over 60 first-team appearances to his name during his time with Lille, Strasbourg (loan) and Lyon.

This season, Terrier has played 16 Ligue 1 games – of which four have been starts – scoring two goals. He also has one goal in the Coupe de la Ligue.

Operating in the number 10 role or out wide, the versatile attacking midfielder is perfect for Newcastle’s long-term plans.

Rafa Benitez has been eyeing reinforcements in both departments and Terrier can develop into a first-team star at St James’ Park.

The France under-21 international is quick, skilful and already has Champions League experience to his name so he fits the bill as an Almiron alternative.
