Luton Town boss comments on Izzy Brown’s injury-raved Leeds United spell

Luton Town boss Graeme Jones has been discussing Izzy Brown’s struggles at Leeds United.

Brown has joined Luton on loan from Chelsea for the 2019-20 campaign and the newly-promoted side will be hoping he can thrive at Kenilworth Road. Indeed, he put in an excellent showing on debut in an EFL Cup clash with Ipswich Town last night.

That comes after a tough time with injuries last term.

Jones that playing two games in close proximity for Carlos Corberan’s under-23 side was not wise so soon after recovering from a long-term knee injury.

“Izzy Brown is at that stage of his career where he wants to play football…

“He has great pedigree, he went to Leeds and was injured when he signed for Leeds last season.

“They thought he would be fit in September, he was actually fit in December and then played a couple of U21 games back-to-back, in three days before Christmas and did his hamstring.

“He also did his back in February, so he’s had a real stop-start spell.”

TBR’s View

Leeds United clearly never got to see the best of Brown and even when he had finally got himself fit, Marcelo Bielsa was not willing to use him.

His most telling moment from the 11 minutes of football he played in West Yorkshire was a ballooned free-kick in the final moments of Leeds’ play-off capitulation against Derby County.

However, the claims surrounding his hamstring injury seem odd. Brown actually returned to action in November for Leeds under-23 side, not December. He played against Birmingham City, Newcastle United and Burnley’s youngsters before suffering the injury v Barnsley, six days after his previous game, not three.

Leeds fans were disappointed to never see Brown make an impact at Elland Road. It simply seems it was a move came at the wrong time for the young attacker, whose fitness was a major issue.

Now it seems he is approaching full fitness Leeds fans will not begrudge the player any success with his new club.
