Luke Edwards shares what he’s heard about Newcastle and Mohamed Simakan
Newcastle United haven’t had much to shout about with regards to transfer business over the past seven weeks or so.
The Magpies made a few deals prior to the Profit and Sustainability deadline, but since then, things have been very quiet on Tyneside.
Speculation has been doing the rounds, such as that involving Newcastle and Marc Guehi, but nothing concrete.
In recent hours, speculation intensified involving RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan, with Newcastle said to be exploring a deal for him.
The report came from Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, who said Newcastle, Liverpool, Barcelona and the Saudi Pro League are on the Simakan case.
Luke Edwards, the Daily Telegraph’s Northern Football writer, has now shared what he’s heard about the Simakan to Newcastle speculation.

Edwards, writing on X, says he has asked about the reports, and “it doesn’t seem anything has advanced beyond looking at possible targets” in lieu of the Guehi deal.
“I’m not even sure he’s very high on that list,” he added. “I’m not going to rule it out but as far as I can tell Guehi pursuit remains active.”
What has been said about Mohamed Simakan?
Strasbourg boss Francois Keller likened Simakan to France icon Raphael Varane, and deemed the reported Newcastle target a “phenomenon”.
Meanwhile, scouting expert Jacek Kulig and deemed him a “fantastic player”.
And according to The Speeds Database, , which is on par with Alphonso Davies and faster than Anthony Gordon and Darwin Nunez.
All in all, Simakan looks like a good shout for Newcastle, but it remains to be seen what happens in the coming days.
Edwards’ update isn’t too optimistic on this front but things can – and do – change quickly at this stage of the transfer window.
