£7m Lukasz Fabianski might well prove to be the bargain signing of the summer

West Ham United stopper Lukasz Fabianski could easily become this season’s ‘bargain signing’ of the summer, if he keeps up his standards for the rest of the campaign.

The 33-year-old was signed from relegated Swansea City for just £7 million ().

He has undeniably been one of the Irons’ standout performers so far.

Fabianski was excellent against Chelsea at the London Stadium on Sunday.

The Poland international was solid between the sticks, and partly the reason Chelsea no longer have a 100% record.

The Blues struggled to break down a resolute Hammers defence.

When they did get through, Fabianski was on hand to thwart them.

It was just another day at the office for Fabianski, who has excelled since his summer move.

Bargain of the season?

Fabianski is already going the right way about being recognised as this year’s bargain signing by a Premier League club.

The chances are, the ex-Arsenal goalkeeper will be kept very busy by opposition attackers, as was the case when he was at Swansea.

He’s going to be in the thick of it. He will therefore have the chance to draw further attention to his performances.

£7 million is a snip, especially given the player’s form over the years for Swansea.

If he can steer clear of making costly errors, which he tends to do, then there’s every chance he could be seen as the league’s best value for money acquisition in 2018/19.

Who else could challenge him?

A lot of deals were done in the summer window, and a lot of money was spent.

Perhaps players such as Xherdan Shaqiri (£13.5 million), Mateo Kovacic (loan) or Danny Ings (loan) may be his challengers for best bargain signing, but Fabianski is going to play every single game, one would imagine.

West Ham’s defence tends to come under the spotlight most weekends, and Fabianski will surely be a busy man this term.
