Lucas Perez scores first goal since West Ham exit

This summer saw West Ham United lose plenty of attacking talent. The big-name players to leave the club were Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez and Andy Carroll. However, the Hammers also let one of their fringe strikers go.

Lucas Perez was signed in the summer of 2018 from Arsenal to provide cover in attack for West Ham. , he cost around £4 million. He did not, however, prove a hit at the club.

Perez scored three goals in the Premier League for West Ham. Whilst his FA Cup record of three goals in four games was far more impressive, it was no surprise that West Ham let him go this summer.

The 31-year-old returned to Spain, joining Deportivo Alaves for an undisclosed fee.

Yesterday, he scored his first goal since leaving West Ham. The striker scored a penalty as Alaves defeated Mallorca 2-0 in La Liga.

It was his first goal of the season from his seven appearances as he struggles to find the form that once saw Arsenal decide to bring him to English football.

West Ham fans will not be overly concerned to see their ex-player finally finding the net. The Hammers currently sit fourth in the Premier League after a good start to the season under Manuel Pellegrini, even if they did get humiliated by Oxford United in the EFL Cup recently.

West Ham fans will not begrudge any success their former player finds back in his homeland. Hopefully, this is the first of many goals for his new team.
