Could Arsenal reject Lucas Perez secure a Premier League stay at Newcastle United?

As Lucas Perez nears the exit door of the Emirates after a disastrous season at Arsenal,  say that newly promoted Newcastle United have emerged as surprise contenders for his signature.

What would he bring to St. James’ Park?

Perez would be the perfect addition for Rafa Benitez. The Magpies are looking for a striker and a left winger, both positions in which the Spaniard can shine. Having suffered rejection in their pursuits of the likes of Tammy Abraham, Sheyi Ojo and Cedric Bakambu, they are aware that Perez is on the market this summer.

Perez is also a respected goalscorer after his form in Spain. Whilst he has struggled to replicate that in the Premier League, he was barely given a chance by Arsene Wenger since signing last summer.

Perez would also bring strength and pace to the Newcastle attack. A real goal poacher, he knows which spaces to exploit and will easily look to get on the end of the great service from Newcastle’s midfield and wingers.

Is a move likely?

Newcastle seem happy to make a permanent move for Perez, and that is what the Gunners are hoping for having paid £17 million for him only 12 months ago.

The biggest potential factor that could ruin a deal is the interest of Perez’s former club Deportivo A Coruna, with the forward believed to be keen on the opportunity to return to Spain after a nightmare stay in London.

The finances and a guarantee of first team football may be tempting for Perez if Newcastle do come calling, but only he can tell which option would be more attractive.
